Welcome to SkinPDT.org
This site has been constructed by the Forth Valley Dermatology Team based at Falkirk and Stirling Royal Infirmaries, Scotland. We are keen to support nursing and medical colleagues wishing to develop a topical photodynamic therapy service in their departments and to provide advice on how to optimise the response of the skin to clinical PDT.
We hope you will find the site of great benefit but remind visitors that they must always consider the specific instructions provided by manufacturers on photosensitiser and light use and whether their use of PDT will be for licence or off-label indications.
We are able to respond to enquiries from medical and nursing colleagues in the UK seeking advice on setting-up and delivering photodynamic therapy (see Contact Details). We would encourage colleagues in the UK to utilise this site as well as contacting their nearest expert centre in PDT who may be better able to address local issues.
We regret that we cannot at present provide advice to patients, who are requested to seek the help of their local general practitioner/dermatologist for advice as to whether topical photodynamic therapy might be a treatment option for their particular skin problem.
Disclaimer – the authors of this site cannot accept responsibility for any misleading or incorrect statements and the management of individual patients remains the direct responsibility of the individual doctor. We do, however, hope that visitors can email us regarding comments that are considered misleading or incorrect so that we can continue to improve the site.
Acknowledgement – The initial development of this website in 2004 was supported with an unconditional grant from Galderma UK. We acknowledge the support of the IT Department of the Acute Operating Division of NHS Forth Valley in the design and update of this site.
